Denise Stutey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over two decades of extensive experience supporting children, teens, adults, and families through complex emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs such as grief, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, trauma, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and more. .
Her background includes crisis intervention, client assessment, school-based mental health, community outreach, individual and group counseling, and collaborative care with families, educators, and interdisciplinary teams. As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, Denise is committed to creating a supportive, inclusive, and welcoming space for individuals of all identities.
Denise has worked in a variety of mental health settings, including outpatient therapy, community mental health, school social work, and hospital-based school support. She currently serves as a School Social Worker with Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she conducts assessments, provides individual and group counseling, supports emotional and behavioral development, collaborates on IEP planning, and responds to student crisis needs. Her previous roles with USD 500, USD 259, and COMCARE have strengthened her ability to support clients through practical intervention, advocacy, treatment planning, and evidence-based therapeutic care.
Denise integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, client-centered and solution-focused approaches, and mindfulness techniques into her therapeutic work. She strives to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients feel supported as they begin or continue their healing and growth journey.
