Therapy

Initial Contact (15 minutes)

A phone consultation will be conducted prior to scheduling the initial assessment/consultation. This is a confidential phone call, free of charge. A brief set of questions will be asked, in order to determine the appropriateness of the referral, likelihood of fit for services, and to answer your questions. A referral/recommendation will be made based on information received during the phone interview.

Consultation (60 minutes)

This session includes the following: an introduction to the practice policies and procedures and a review of pertinent background information (including prior treatment history and past records, if applicable). Depending on your treatment needs, the first several sessions may include a clinical interview, completion of standardized questionnaire assessments, and treatment planning to focus on a course of treatment.

Therapy Sessions (45-180 minutes)

Depending on your treatment needs and agreed upon course of treatment, therapy sessions will consist of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Habit Reversal Technique (HRT), and or relaxation techniques. Frequency and length of therapy sessions will be discussed and agreed upon based on your treatment needs.

Each person’s course of treatment is different and may require a different amount of time to accomplish. Several factors will affect immediate length of treatment. These are: previous treatment success or failures; social factors; presence of more than one disorder; severity of maladaptive coping and individual incentive to adapt to more functional coping; severity of avoidance, client ability to engage in changing their fear perceptions and fear attributions with behavior therapy.

There is no set limit to the length of time a person may remain in therapy as long as he/she continues to need the services. After a thorough assessment of your situation and goals, we may estimate a likely time frame. Such estimates are subject to change as we gain more information about your situation. You are always an active part in the decision-making.

Termination Session (50 minutes)

A review of treatment and completion of standardized questionnaire assessments. If necessary, recommendations for follow up sessions, called “Booster” Sessions, are made.

Booster Session(s) (Follow-up As Necessary)

While many people obtain lasting relief with appropriate treatment, it is important to know that most experts consider anxiety disorders to be chronic conditions. Therefore, the effective management and reduction of symptoms, the recognition of how to handle future symptoms that may occur, and the long-term adaptation of life skills towards happy, healthy, and productive functioning are more realistic goals than the notion of a "cure." Therefore, Booster Sessions are designed to follow-up with treatment as needed to enhance and improve your ability to manage stress and anxiety.

Clinic

The Clinic is an additional service available to current and/or previous clients who need more immediate assistance prior to their next session. The clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8:00am-9:00am. To participate in the clinic, you must call by 7:00am on the morning that you want to be seen. The order of being seen is based upon arrival times to the clinic.
